Visions of the past forge the future and the self.
Before the ancients ever devised their first mnemonic tools for remembering facts, humans were using their powers of memory to build community and society, tell stories and create a future on Earth. The science of memory, in many ways, has always been here. The classic Greek and Roman visual storytelling technique, the "method of loci," is still used today and featured in this issue in "Building a Memory Palace". Because memory and its associated cognitive skill, attention, are so essential to human success, its mastery has always enhanced our lives.
