Aperture’s winter issue considers “Desire” as both an impulse and a state of mind. An expansive interview with Juergen Teller, whose photographs upend fashion’s vocabulary of glamour and aspiration, is published on the occasion of a major touring retrospective in Europe. Stories on the work of Melissa Shook, Ishiuchi Miyako, Nakeya Brown, Jonathas de Andrade, Nabil Harb, Oto Gillen, Marcelo Gomes, Imai Hisae, and others consider the body, the natural world, advertising, beguiling objects, and direct physical expressions of desire as the material for indelible images.
